CP25: Un monumento al nulla
May 2025
A monument to nothingness
Conceived by artist Daniele Sigalot in 2011, the Coppa Pizzeria is an international tournament of asymmetric and irregular football that reflects the imperfections of modern society and the flaws of the human condition.
A grand collective gesture that celebrates absurdity, injustice, and ego as forms of art.
A grotesque and merciless field, where every action is performative and every arbitrary decision becomes a political act.
For the 2025 edition, we imagined a new setting for this unruly ritual: a modular arena assembled from shipping containers, rising from the industrial guts of the port of Naples. An ephemeral yet monumental architecture, echoing the Colosseum not as a symbol of power, but as a ritual ground. A temporary refuge for a nomadic tribe that gathers once a year to bring creativity, conflict, and vision to the field.

To bring it to life, we first traced the arena full-scale on the ground, forcing forklift drivers to rethink their assumptions about whether parallelepipeds could form a circle, and we then had nearly 500 containers moved just to clear the field, before building our own amphitheatre from 226 of them.
What emerged, more than just a space, is a collective performative device that elevates madness to a critical and necessary language, articulating an unregulated artistic practice, free from any logic of authorization or institutional recognition.
The Monument to Nothing lasted only 8 hours,
but they were the most incredible 8 hours ever.
Thanks to Sgrappa for sponsoring the on-field misconduct, and to freni&frizioni for putting us through athletic training at the Grand Gala at Quartiere Intelligente, while Andrea Brustia made us dance to classic Neapolitan songs.
To tappobar for feeding us, to bassotto.sound.system for the wall of speakers that CP had long deserved, and to @ mb globalservice for making it possible for i bellissimi dischi di ornavasso and red.from.redlicious to make us dance like lunatics.
Thanks to our speakers k-conjog and il salada for all the bad and good words, and to all the teams whose efforts will never be justly rewarded, as clearly stated in our social charter.
Thanks to maestro francoszero for reminding us that everything is nothing, just like our monument.
To the tamers paolo troilo and Armando Guastella for vainly trying to referee the unrefereeable.
Thanks to the participating, performing, and paying audience.
Thanks to snoparaz for finding us the location, and to Massimo, the forklift driver who with passion and dedication supported our healthy madness.
And finally, thanks to Daniele Sigalot, the mastermind and grand master of ceremonies of this indescribable thing that is the CP.
The Cup is a great collective gesture.
So thank you, all of us. See you in Venice for CP26.
